Claimant Awarded Damages For Wrongful Arrest, False Imprisonment And Assault

Okoro v. Commissioner of the Police of the Metropolis, QBD, 17/1/10

Richard Seymour QC (sitting as a Deputy Judge of the High Court) held that the claimant had been subjected to wrongful arrest, false imprisonment and assault in respect of his arrest and detainment for four hours by police in circumstances where the evidence showed that the arrest could not be justified. The claimant was awarded damages of £2,000.00 for the arrest, false imprisonment and assault and a sum of £11,000.00 for pain, suffering and loss of amenity in respect of a wrist and knee injury sustained in the course of his arrest and detention.
